She is originally from Los Angeles and is fluent in Spanish. She received her undergraduate degree in Paralegal Studies from National University and earned her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude from Thomas Jefferson School of law.

During law school, Marissa interned with the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, assisting victims of domestic violence and civil harassment in obtaining temporary restraining orders. In recognition of her service, she received the Wiley M. Manuel certificate for Pro Bono legal services. She also interned with the San Diego County Public Defender's Office, where she represented individuals in misdemeanor proceedings and felony arraignments, conducted legal research, and motion practice. These internships allowed Marissa to gain valuable courtroom experience and develop strong client communication skills.

Prior to joining the firm, Marissa practiced immigration law, representing clients in removal proceedings and bond hearings. During that time, she successfully obtained a Federal Court order directing the immediate release of a wrongfully detained client through a habeas corpus petition.

Drawing on her diverse litigation and advocacy experience, Marissa brings a thoughtful and client-focused approach to legal representation. Her background in both public service and private practice has equipped her with strong analytical, research, and courtroom skills, enabling her to effectively navigate complex legal matters and advocate for her clients' interests.

In her free time, she likes to spend time with her family and tend to her small garden. She also likes to watch sports and read suspense novels.
