Matthew R. Souther

Background

Mr. Souther a trial lawyer, joined Neil Dymott as an associate in 2004 and became a shareholder of the firm in July 2013. He is admitted to practice in the state of California and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. His practice includes the defense of medical malpractice claims, professional liability, healthcare claims, general civil litigation and catastrophic personal injury. He also specializes in administrative licensing hearings for various types of healthcare professionals.

Mr. Souther is an adjunct professor at California Western School of Law, where he teaches medical malpractice litigation.  He is a member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, San Diego County Bar Association, California Society for Healthcare Risk Management, San Diego Association for Healthcare Risk Management, Southern California Association of Health Risk Management, and San Diego Defense Lawyers (“SDDL”), where he served on the Board of Directors in 2010 and 2011.

Mr. Souther earned his law degree at California Western School of Law. Prior to joining Neil Dymott, Mr. Souther volunteered at the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, where he received the “Distinguished Service Award” for Pro Bono legal service. He also was the recipient of the “Wiley W. Manuel Award” for Pro Bono service.

Mr. Souther is originally from York, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Nevada, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Aside from practicing law, he is an avid cyclist and skier.  He also enjoys golfing and surfing.
